Devon Trip 2016
Welcome to the page for the 2016 Devon trip. Mr Howell & Miss Gibson will be updating the page each day while the children are away to keep you up to date with the events.
Day 1 - Tuesday 15th March
8.45 am Arrive at school - loading coach
9.30 am Leave school - lunch on route
2.00 pm Arrive and settle in - afternoon activity
6.00 pm Evening meal
7.30 pm Evening activities/ Camp fire
We've had a fantastic first day! The weather has been beautiful and the journey down was brilliant. As soon as we arrived, we got our wellies on and got stuck into our farm activities. We met Thunder the pony, all the rabbits and guinea pigs, pigs, alpacas, Minty the donkey and the naughty goat. We were shown how to look after them so we knew what to do for the next few days. After filling our hungry tummies with good old fashioned grub at tea time, we wrapped up and set off for our camp fire, the best bit being the toasted marshmallows!
Day 2 - Wednesday 16th March
7.00 am Arise & farm activities
7.30 am Breakfast
9.30 am Visit to Paignton Zoo with workshop
5.00 pm Study centre for evening meal and evening activities
7.00 pm Falconry display
Well, could it get any better!!! Sunshine again at Paignton Zoo and we've seen so many animals. Our favourites had to be the Gorilla doing sign language, and the roaring lions. Everyone walked miles and were glad to sit down on the coach to travel back to the farm. After tea we are heading to the barn for a falconry display and then we are all hoping for a good nights sleep.
Day 3 - Thursday 17th March
7.30 am Arise & farm activities
8.30 am Breakfast
9.30 am Visit to Morwellham Quay with a range of workshops
5.00pm Evening meal and talent show
What a fascinating place this was. When we arrived we split into groups for some workshops. We all had the chance to learn about how rich and poor Victorians dressed, then try on the outfits ourselves, even the adults joined in the fun. After this, we were all traumatised by a Victorian school lesson, we hope that Mr Howell and Miss Gibson won't be using any of the punishments we heard about!!!!! After lunch in the beautiful sunshine we headed for a real favourite, a workshop on chocolate. Finally, we had the chance to board a rickety train and head into an old mine shaft. It was pitch black, cramped and dark. None of us thought the idea of being a miner during the Victorian era appealed at all.
Day 4 - Friday 18th March
7.30 am Arise & farm activities
8.30 am Breakfast & packing up
11.00 am Visit to Killerton House
1.00 pm Lunch
4.30 pm Approx arrive at school
All good things must come to an end and today we were heading home. We went out to a very crisp, frosty morning and completed our final farm activities before heading back inside to consume copious amounts of pancakes for breakfast! With all our cases packed and rooms cleared we boarded the coaches that would take us home. On the way, we stopped at Killerton House to stretch our legs, burn off some energy and have our picnic lunch. We then boarded the coaches for the final time to head back to school, tired but happy.
