Welcome to Year 2
Year 2 is a very important final year in Key Stage 1 and the children continue to develop their independent skills in preparation for Key Stage 2. This is also a crucial year as the children complete their Key Stage 1 national SATs assessments in May.

Homework is given out on a Friday and must be returned to school by the following Wednesday.
Spellings are tested on a Thursday.
P.E is on a Monday and a Thursday, though may change from time to time. P.E kit should be in school every day, including tracksuit and trainers for outdoor games in winter.
Welcome to the start of the Spring term! The children have already come back from Christmas ready to learn. We have lots to do but as always we will be making it all as fun as possible.
Welcome to the start of the Summer term! The children have already come back from Easter ready to learn. We have lots to do but as always we will be making it all as fun as possible.
Our topic up to July is ‘Wicked Wild West’. We will be having a fun Wild West Day on the field with Year 1 later in the term and will be finding out lots about the history of the Wild West. We also have our class assembly to look forward to.
You can see from our ‘overview’ that we are planning to cover a lot in the next few weeks! Please help your child by discussing these topics and please say if there is any way that you can support us within the class.
We also have out tests coming up in May – as my previous letter explains, there is nothing for the children to worry about. They are even looking forward to having their own ‘special’ book!!
*As always, hearing your child read is so important as this helps them to access the curriculum. Please also record in their reading diaries as this provides evidence for the end of the year. I expect the children to read at least 5 times a week.
*Please continue to practise the times tables with your child (2,5,10) and the related division facts. The children may occasionally bring home their multiplication check-up sheets which would give an idea of how to support your child. There is also a speed test on Purple Mash which the children love.
*Support your child wherever possible with their handwriting – joined if possible.
*Help your child to learn their spellings (the Squeebles app is again great for this). They will have weekly spelling patterns but will also need to learn their Year 2 exception words.
*PE is on a Tuesday and a Friday, please ensure your child has their kit in school at all times and that it is named.
As always, please pop in to see us if you are unsure of anything and we will do our best to help.
