Welcome to Year 5
Year 5 marks the move for children from lower to upper Key Stage 2. The essence of this year is to provide children with opportunities to gain in independence and to seek out and accept greater responsibility.
Year 5 Staff
Class Teacher: Miss A. Gibson
Teaching Assistant: Mrs S. Teasdale, Mrs A. Merrick, Mrs K. Folkes and Mrs A. Barnes
Homework is given out on a Friday and must be returned to school by the following Wednesday.
Spellings will be tested every other Thursday.
P.E will be on a Wednesday and P.E kit should be in school every day, including tracksuit and trainers for outdoor games in winter.
This term we are focusing on World War 2. We have been fascinated so far by reading the diary of Anne Frank in Guided Reading sessions – we can’t quite believe how life was so different for her.
We will be learning about World War 2 through many aspects of the curriculum. We will be cooking war time recipes in DT focusing on planning and designing our food. During History sessions we will find out about what life was like for children during war time and through Geography we will discover what countries were affected by the war. We will also be covering Judaism in comparison to Christianity in RE. Music will explore war time favourites and the importance of radio during the war. Also, CPSHE will have a focus on Sex and Relationship Education and children will learn how their bodies will change through puberty. Miss Budhan will be teaching the class American Football on a Monday afternoon.
We are going to have such a fabulous final term together!
