Welcome to Year 6
Year 6 is a huge year for children at Mitton Manor. This year children learn to be independent and responsible as they begin their move towards secondary school. They have their SATs but more than that they benefit from an enriched and widespread curriculum. They will learn a great deal about the world around them as well as about themselves and will make great strides in their preparation for the next big step. It is also a difficult year with lots of change and some big moments, the year 6 team work hard with all colleagues to ensure children enjoy a happy and progressive year which should be full of fun, laughter and responsibility. They will all receive jobs to ensure that they develop confidence and empathy with others and their surroundings.

In the Spring term, we will be focused on the power of nature and looking into natural disasters around the world. We will be looking at the effects of nature on the UK as well as the major incidents that happen around the world. Through our topic we will research the science of nature and the impact that natural disasters have on people. This term will also see us focusing on computing and honing our skills as programmers to start to create our own games. We will also be applying our design skills to make dioramas of disasters. Our music lessons will see year 6 delve into popular songs and breakdown how they are put together and the artists that perform them. Finally in PE we will be putting together our own dances and developing racket skills.
